  1. Hi! Any comment regarding Lexis Korea? Until now it was the only school with flexible dates (courses start any Monday) and I can choose the number of weeks I would like to take, that is exactly what I need! Thanks!

    1. Hi Juliane,

I will slowly but surely get around to reviewing and uploading all of the schools listed above. But with regards to your comment, you are very much correct. The biggest downside to the university courses is their rigid schedules; If you are a professional looking to study after work, or you have only a month or so period to visit Korea, you are a traveler and want to do a week or so of courses or you are interested in other korean based courses like their drama class then yes - Lexis is by far the best choice. It's location in Gangnam too is also a bonus (but that is reflected in the price). If you would like then please send me an email at michael@kocken.com.au and I will be more than happy to answer your questions in more detail.

      Thanks

    2. As an American, is it possible for me to study at these school with just the 3-month tourist visa? Or do I need a student visa? I ask because I'm currently living in China and imagine it would be a hassle to get the student visa sorted out from here.

Thanks for your blog post btw, it's very informative

  10. I was looking into language courses in Seoul.
It seems like many people stay for a "gap year" or as preparation for universities.

Is it common to stay for the 10 weeks that are offered as "one session"?
And if so; how much would I actually be learning in that time?

Is it worth it to stay for those 10 weeks or should I consider something like a year long stay?

    1. I studyed at lexis and yonsei university. At lexis 10 weeks were not so common more between 2 and 6 weeks. At Yonsei only 10 weeks are possible. Depending on how good you are with languages after ten weeks you can read and talk in korean and say simple sentences. Like where you are from, ask for the way order a meal and so on. I did 20 weeks but as I am really bad with languages I still struggle to understand a conversation. Others in my class who only did ten weeks could talk and understand. After one year and a good amount of talent you should be able to speak fluent korean not in an acedemic way but fluent. But one year at a university will const you about 6400 Dollar and that is without accommodation. Hope i could help.

  12. Your pricing on Seoul national is currently incorrect. It's 1,500,000 won for the afternoon program atm. I'm not sure if that affects your review or not.

  13. I plan on moving to Korea after I go to college and land a job as a teacher in a Korean public school. I want to learn Korean in an American college but I'm not very smart and don't think I'll make it into the colleges here that teach Korean. If I'm in Korea and have a teaching job, which schools do you recommend I look in to.

  17. I go to one at hongik university. I do not reccomend. It's super super intense hard work and if you fall below an 80% attendance rate they will expel you and you can't enroll again. Plus, one term (about ten weeks) costs about $1,200. You study for 4 hours every day (weekends not incuded of course)
I got all the way up to level 4 with this school and I just don't reccomend it. I learned very quickly but it's extremely stressful and They push you to the limit.

    1. I think all the unis are like this. I found 10 (only really did 8) weeks far too intense, with a job on the side. Simply could not commit to studying outside of class. I also studied Chinese (in China) and the expectations/requirements were not nearly as high ( flip side, my progress was much slower). I'm curious as to how much 'easier' lexis for example is, compared to the uni courses.

    1. You are never old to learn a language :-) I am 45 and started Korean last year. My plan is to go for a 4 weeks intensive course there. I am also planning to continue Dutch & Polish (and maybe more). Good luck for your studies!

  25. Contemplating with a gathering can be exceptionally profitable, this is because of the way that each individual could have valuable plans to contribute. One individual may know things that you don't and like savvy you will know things that different individuals don't. So every one can incredibly profit when contemplating as a piece of a gathering. It could be valuable to think about with individuals who you can coexist with. study agent.
